Here's Our Journey

Surf Bar opened on November 5, 2018, in the back of a boutique in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Tyler fell in love with açaí bowls in places he’d traveled to, like Hawaii, Florida and California. He had already decided he wasn’t going to college so when the opportunity came his senior year of high school, his dad, Scott, gave him $750 to buy a sign and bought 2 blenders, 1 freezer, 1 fridge, and a sink.

Supported by Scott, Westie, AJ, Matt, and our dedicated franchisees, we have been spreading good vibes and a great product everywhere we go, One Bowl At A Time.

The Team

Tyler - a Shawnee, Oklahoma native - founded Surf Bar in November of 2018. In 2021, he married his wife, Westie, who has been a major support through the evolution of the company. Tyler primarily focuses on company growth, strategy and team oversight. His favorite bowl is the Nutty Kiki.

In addition to being the CFO of Surf Bar, Scott is the CFO for a mission organization, Nevertheless Missions, and serves on his church’s finance committee. He has also served on many booster clubs and community boards. Scott's favorite bowl is the Nutty Kiki.

AJ joined the team in late 2020 and quickly advanced to Director of Operations, where he focuses on optimizing daily operations and developing the business. AJ's favorite bowl is the Shaka, with peanut butter on the bottom and strawberry instead of blueberry.

In August 2022, Matt joined Surf Bar as Financial Controller after being recommended by mutual friends for his essential skills. He oversees daily transactions, prepares budgets, and generates financial reports. Matt's favorite bowl is the Shaka, with kiwi instead of banana.
